The content of this subject belongs to the field of English for Specific Purposes. This subject is understood as a follow-up of English I, taken by the students in the first course of their degree Music Education Diploma.
Objetivos
The main objectives of this subject are: i) to develop students knowledge of the English language in the fields of education and music at both oral and written levels; as well as ii) to develop their overall communicative competence to appropriately use English in different contexts.
Therefore, an emphasis will be placed on the practice of the four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing), necessary to achieve a full communicative competence in specific and general contextual situations where students will need to interact in the future.
Metodología
The subject will be conducted in English. The sessions will be mainly practical, including lectures, individual, pair and group work. Special emphasis will be paid to students active participation in all activities and discussions carried out during the course. Therefore, class attendance is highly recommended.
Particular tutorials will also be organised to follow students learning process during the course. Additionally, an autonomous perspective to language learning will be promoted by encouraging students to widen their English knowledge in the CAL (Centro de Aprendizaje de Lenguas), and by making them use new technologies through the search of particular English websites on the Internet in relation to the contents of the subject.

Project 15%
Oral presentation 15%
It is compulsory to do the three parts (exam, project and oral presentation) in order to pass the subject. Additionally, special attention will be paid to students learning process during the course, active participation in class and the realisation of the assignments specified in each unit. In order to have an overall pass in the subject, the sum of the different parts will have to be over 50%.
Temario de teoría
The contents of the subject include five different units that will be covered during the semester. The units being:
1. Knowing about the educational system
2. Examining students learning characteristics
3. Becoming an effective teacher
4. Using songs and music in education
5. Communicating in educational and other contextual settings
The material for these five units will be left in the Photocopying Room of the FCHS (Facultad Ciencias Humanas y Sociales) before the start of each unit.
